RSM is looking for a Technology and Management Consulting (TMC) Business Intelligence (BI) Director and Practice Leader. As a Practice Leader you will be responsible for driving the revenue growth, profitability, capabilities and customer satisfaction of the RSM US LLP West Region BI practice through effective participation in the following activities: Sales and pre/post-sales support, project billing and delivery management, and practice management.  This position reports directly to the West Region Technology Consulting Leader and has a dotted line reporting relationship to the National Leader of TMC- BI.

Pre/Post-Sales Support Responsibilities:

  • Participate in client analysis and planning
  • In coordination with the business unit’s Operations Manager participate in authoring marketing material
  • Participate in forming general account sales approach and strategy
  • Develop solution specific sales strategies and review with sales to ensure proper execution
  • Support sales in client meetings providing technical expertise and promoting business development
  • In coordination with the business unit’s National BI leader, prepare business development opportunity assessments
  • Develop and present solution presentations for client engagements
  • In coordination with the business unit’s Operations Manager develop and submit estimates, proposals, statements of work and engagement letters for client opportunities
  • In coordination with the department’s Operations Manager keep solutions pipeline up to date for all opportunities that you are currently working on in your practice space
  • Follow National Consulting policies and procedures for deal approval
  • Pass non-infrastructure related opportunities to other West Region practice leaders
  • Strategy is to focus on our core business application platforms
  • Focus on high priority BI industries regardless of BA platform 
  • Focus opportunistically on areas where we have deep industry experience, higher education, not for profit, dairy

Project Billing and Delivery Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and manage a practice that has a minimum of $4MM revenue at a *55% GM on a yearly basis (*including reseller incentives)
  • Ability to perform on-site client assessments to develop BI and other technology strategies and road maps
  • Maintain a personal client billing utilization as depicted in the business plan for the fiscal year :
  • Maintain the utilization of all other practice consultants in your practice as depicted in the business plan for the fiscal year
  • Position yourself as a delivery expert in the client eyes (RSM does not want our Practice Leader to be viewed as Sales agents of RSM)
  • Identify, develop and launch teams to deliver BI based solutions for our clients
  • Expose technical complexities and risks with our proposed solutions gauging the potential impact they have on our projects and develop and implement appropriate mitigation strategies
  • Identify and work to actively resolve project based issues
  • In coordination with the business unit’s Operations Manager continuously improve our BI methodologies, solutions, the client engagement process, etc...
  • In coordination with the business unit’s Operation’s Manager work closely with delivery to ensure that resources are properly distributed on projects and are capable of providing quality solutions to our clients
  • New solutions offerings for business development

  • Develop solution presentations

  • RSM value propositions
  • Solutions development standards and processes including refinement or creation of RSM methodologies in the TMC BI space

Practice Management Responsibilities:

  • Establish practice solutions as a profit center within RSM US LLP and manage the practice as a business unit
  • Set annual P&L goals with the West region leader
  • Review and assess P&L achievements on a monthly basis
  • Revise P&L goals on a quarterly basis, as required
  • In coordination with Recruiting, assist in the selection and placement of the highest quality personnel in support of the practice.
  • Conduct regular practice meetings with practice resources to encourage a sense of belonging, adjust and create practice specific strategies, network to find needed resources, etc.
  • Provide career counseling and mentoring to junior members of the TMC BI practice
  • In coordination with the business unit’s Operations Manager review TMC BI proposals, statement of work, engagement letters and client scope changes
  • In coordination with the business unit’s Operations Manager review all client pricing/fee arrangements
  • In coordination with the business unit’s Operations Manager participate as needed in Sales and operational meetings
  • Write and deliver annual reviews for BI practice resources as assigned
  • Identify and manage relationships with potential BI partners
  • In coordination with the business unit’s Operations Manager develop and publish or present presentations, white papers and other intellectual property that will assist in marketing RSM services and/or refine RSM delivery capabilities in the Infrastructure space
  • Maintain an understanding of where the trends in the BI space are heading
  • Serve as a role model to reinforce the use of BI tools, methodologies and processes

Basic Qualifications:

  • 10 years’ experience in enterprise BI Solutions with at least 3 of these years leading a BI practice for a major consulting firm
  • Sales support and delivery experience
  • Proven experience growing and scaling an BI consulting practice
  • Ability to travel freely within, to and from the USA and other countries
  • Have a relevant rolodex of potential targets in the West region (CA, WA, AZ, NV, UT, OR)
  • Strong subject matter expertise in the following BI solutions: Presentation Layer, Microsoft, Power BI, SSRS, Qlik, Database/ETL extract transform load, MS SQL, Azure, Predictive, Cloud, TOAD, TALEND

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must possess excellent time management, communication, decision-making, human relations, presentation and organizational skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, leadership skills combined with analytical capabilities and an open mind
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required
  • Superior professional presence and business acumen

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in MIS, CS, Engineering or equivalent field
  • Master’s degree is CS or MBA is preferred
  • BI Certifications are a plus
